Jeremy (Opensouls, OTA productions) is going to take us through a full demo of the infamous MPC3000 and how he uses it to put together his beats.

Ayebro live Beat Battle

4 beat makers get 30mins to put a beat together using the same sample pack and you can come and check out the process of how these guys put their beats together. We’ll showcase the beats and choose the winner who’ll win a $1000 sample pack put together by the NZ Rockshop.

Evan Short – mastering session

Evan Short is one of NZ’s finest mastering engineers (he’s mastered Concord Dawn, Shapeshifter, David Dallas any many others), and he’s going to be talking us through the mastering process and passing on some wisdom on how to get the most from a mastering session.

Christoph El’ Truento (DJ Truent) beat showcase

One of my favorite NZ beat makers is coming along to showcase some of his new beats and talk about his production style, influences and plans for the future. Make sure you check out his page over on Soundcloud to get an idea of the stlyes.

This tiny analog monster has one of the simplest architectures of any synth so it’s going to be really exciting to see what these 2 masters of the synth come up with on the day. I’m a firm believer in the creative spirit and hate any elitist notion that you need to be using a specific bit of kit to be taken seriously as a musician/producer/whatever. No doubt this will be an interesting and exciting performance.

Along with some great interviews in the room we’ve put together a live beat battle for you all to check out. 4 beat makers get 30mins to put a beat together from the same sample set. The guys all work from the same software and you’ll be able to check out how they put their beats together during the battle. Music Machines is all about how people use the gear to create so this will be a great chance to see how they do it.

NZ Rockshop have offered up $1000 worth of sample CD’s for the winner which is gonna make it even more interesting. Here’s the run down on who’s taking part, they’ve all got their own style and sound so I’m really excited to see what they come up with, I’ve just gotta chose the samples now!

NZ Rockshop will be bringing along some of the latest gear from their showroom plus putting together a killer lineup of gear demo’s to show you how some of NZ’s producers and artists create their music.

Ayebro.co.nz is one of NZ’s finest hiphop blogs and community’s and we’re proud to have them come on board to feature some killer beat battles, gear demo’s and artist interviews. Watch this space for the full rundown, this room is all about “The Beat”.

The premise of the event last year was to bring together New Zealand’s largest collection of synths and drum machines in one room so that you could come and check them out, chat to some of the collectors and most important of all, get to try them out. We succeeded in making this happen and most of the thanks has to go to all the people who brought their kit along on the day. It couldn’t have happened without everybody getting involved and sharing their love of all things that go bleep!

This year we’re trying to expand the event a little and as well as still having a focus on the synths and drum machines we’re going to be adding more demo’s and workshops. We’ve got a few partners involved this year to help us put this together and i’ll be telling you more about them over the coming weeks.

As with last year we’re looking for people to come along on the day to bring some of their kit and generally help out. We’ve got 8 weeks to go until the event and during that time i’ll be keeping you updated with details on:
